Forget-Me-Not Garden
Kingswells Community Centre has an extremely hard working and dedicated volunteer who started to develop this piece of land at the side of the Centre.
See the images below to see how it transformed from a muddy, piece of abandoned land, to the amazing garden, playground and natural habitat that it is today.
The garden is built by an extremely dedicated volunteer, using almost 100% recycled elements including planters, benches, that have been donated by volunteers, visitors and other Community Centres. It can be enjoyed by anyone, with seating and benches for visitors, there is a large variety of plants and trees for wildlife, and birds can build a cosy nest in a number of bird boxes that have been installed. Soon there will be outdoor play equipment for various groups that use the Centre with specialist messy play equipment for our Toddlers Group.
Why Forget-Me-Not Garden?
We all know someone who has had to deal with dementia, and the care home in the village is a dementia home. We thought that this would be quite a fitting name for the garden and have planted a number of forget-me-not flowers in there and they can be seen in bloom in spring - early summer time.
We also will never forget a much loved former manager of the Centre who passed away, a memorial plaque for Peter Beatton is displayed in the garden.
Time Capsule
In the spring of 2025 Kingswells Community Centre buried a time capsule in the garden to be dug up again in 2050! See more information about the event.
